We endorse Salim Adofo for Ward 8 Councilmember
On July 15, voters in DC's Ward 8 will elect their next Councilmember. This position is a crucial leader on safety, youth programs and schools, and economic justice, and this special election will have important consequences for the future of the District.
The Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO is proud to endorse Salim Adofo to be the next DC Councilmember for Ward 8. Our DC Committee on Political Education together with Delegates and our Executive Board enthusiastically support Salim's leadership.
"Salim has shown his clear solidarity with DC workers and working families," said Samuel Epps, President of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO. "We know he's the right leader for Ward 8 and the right choice in this important election."
The Council's process for arriving at this endorsement included candidate questionnaires followed by in-person interviews. Based on the questionnaires and interviews, the DC Committee on Political Education issued a recommendation for endorsement to Delegates and the Executive Board. At a special meeting last night, Delegates and Executive Board members reviewed that report and accepted the Committee's recommendation for endorsement.
Thank you to all the Delegates, committee members, and candidates who participated in this process. We look forward to supporting Salim to victory on July 15.
