DC hotel workers ratify historic contract

It's official: DC hotel workers with UNITE HERE Local 25 have ratified a historic new contract by a vote of over 99%. This new four-year contract includes wage gains of over 25 percent, significant benefit increases, and powerful workplace protections.

“This contract is a game changer, plain and simple,” said UNITE HERE Local 25 Executive Secretary-Treasurer and chief negotiator, Paul Schwalb. “Our members made tremendous sacrifices during the pandemic before returning to work and bringing the industry roaring back. They have earned every penny of this contract, which will help them keep up with the D.C. area’s cost of living during their working years and into retirement.” Read more »


32BJ SEIU janitors leaflet at DC Water

Unionized janitors with 32BJ SEIU are leafletting outside DC Water headquarters this morning after DC Water terminated janitors' contract earlier this month — potentially in violation of DC's Displaced Worker Protection Act. 

Many of the janitors have been at DC Water for over a decade. 32BJ is calling on DC Water to offer workers their jobs back, in compliance with the Displaced Worker Protection Act.


DC and Montgomery County minimum wages to increase July 1

UFCW Local 400 wants its members and every worker in DC and Montgomery County, MD to know that the minimum wage in both jurisdictions will increase on July 1, 2024.

In DC, the minimum wage for all employers will go up to $17.50/hour, a fifty-cent increase. In Montgomery County, the minimum wage will go up to $17.15/hour at large employers and $15.50/hour for mid-sized employers. Learn more »
