With just days left in the election, President Barack Obama visited UFCW Local 400 on Saturday to get out the vote for Angela Alsobrooks. "Thank you Mr. President for stopping by," said Local 400, "and a special thank you to all of our members who came to volunteer!" Union win! DC will use bus sales to help Circulator workers
The D.C. Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to use the sale of Circulator buses to compensate employees of the soon-to-be-extinct service, many of whom are members of ATU Local 689. “These are the same workers we were hailing as heroes during the pandemic when they showed up to work and kept the buses running,” said Charles Allen (D-Ward 6), who introduced the bill. Teamsters at TheBus overwhelmingly authorize strike
Bus drivers, mechanics, and utility workers at RATP Dev represented by Teamsters Local 639 have voted 120-1 to strike if an agreement is not reached soon. The 155 Teamsters provide transportation services for TheBus in Prince George's County, MD. Read more »
Chair’s departure jolts new state labor relations board
Just a year after a board was created to oversee labor relations in state government, the Moore administration is scrambling to fill key vacancies in the agency — including the chair. "AFSCME goal is to support the Moore administration in filling the vacancy promptly with an experienced individual who is capable of carrying out its urgent work,” said AFSCME Maryland Council 3 President Patrick Moran. U.S. Department of Labor: Workers want unions – and we support them
Petitions for union representation elections have doubled since 2021 – an increase from 1,638 petitions in FY 2021 to 3,286 in FY 2024. This surge in union representation petitions comes as polling and other research consistently shows that interest in and support for unions is at its highest level in decades. Read more »
